If you want a bit of color, a bit of Interior culture (or Chinese culture, for that matter) or just some cheaper and fresher produce, you can't do much better than Panama's City's recently expanded main farmers' market. If they grow it in Panama and it's in season, you are likely to find it there.

Those green spiky things are guanabanas, the stuff of very good milkshakes
, etc.

Grains and beans, in bulk or smaller quantities

This market offers many options for a cheap Interior-style brunch

If you opened your stall at 3 a.m., maybe you, too, would be ready for a late morning nap

One of our fastest-growing "non-traditional" exports, sweet Panamanian watermelons

Avocados to set aside for a day or two, until they're soft

Are you a foreign senior citizen who has moved to Panama for its cheaper cost of living? Then you would be well advised to shop as many Panamanians of your age group do. This market sells to both retail and wholesale buyers.

Translation: Gringo roosters say "cock-a-doodle-doo." Their Panamanian counterparts say "kikiriki."

Yum! Some local tastes are easier for foreign palates to acquire.
