The winning touchdown: on this play the ULACIT Warriors put the decisive points on the board in a penalty and turnover plagued March 19 contest with the Universidad Latina Dragons. In the day's other games the USMA Frailes massacred the UTP Hurricanes 65-0 and the University of Panama Saints edged the USMA Colon Tigers 26-21. Photo by Eric Jackson March 12 American Football notes from Balboa Stadium by Fernando Franco --- ffranco@tff-tech.net First game: FSU-Panama 40, ULACIT Warriors 0 This game was completely dominated by the Seminoles, whose defense has not allowed points in this first part of the season, and who in this game scored both through the air and on the ground. Second game: USMA-Colon Tigers 35, UTP Hurricanes 14 The game was closer than its score reflects. With five minutes to go in the last quarter, the Hurricanes scored twice to close the gap to 21 to 14. This effort was insufficient, as the Tigers scored on an interception return by Jorge Campbell, whose romp to the end zone sealed the victory. Third game: USMA Frailes 13, Saints 9 A clearly defensive game, the Saints defense forced a safety in its opening moments. The Saints quarterback, Olmedo Miranda, was under constant pressure when he was in the game. The Frailes quarterback, Joel Díaz, later suffered a shoulder injury. The Frailes got on the board in the second and third quarters with touchdowns by Gino de la Cruz and Rubiel De León. The Saints rallied in the final quarter on a pass from Christopher Torregrosa to Miguel Ortega to put the score at 13 to 9, but this effort wasn't enough.
