Parque Carlos V is named after the 16th century Holy Roman Emperor whose domains included both the Austro-Hungarian and Spanish Empires and large parts of Italy. After 37 tumultuous years on the throne during which he was obliged to fight the French, the Papacy, the Turks and the chaotic forces of the Reformation, he did the unusual thing for men in his position and retired in sunny Spain. He is remembered in a tiny but pretty little park in Panama City's Casco Viejo. Photo by Eric Jackson
