Lots of Yachties in Cristobal

US Ambassador William A. Eaton slings the cinderblocks in Nueva Mexico. On May 13 a bunch of people from the American Embassy, the Girl Scouts and the Academia Balboa lent a hand to Habitat for Humanity, a non-sectarian faith-based charity that helps the poor around the world build decent affordable housing. Also pitching in were members of the US Coast Guard and Panama's Servicio Maritima Nacional, with donations from the Do It Center. In this Colon Province community along the Trans-Isthmian Highway 14 families got new houses and about $1000 worth of furnishing each. Habitat builds solid houses at economical prices, and families that wouldn't otherwise get credit buy them with no-interest 15-year loans. Photo courtesy of the American Embassy
