Gold is not all that glitters, but it can shine!

Dear Dr. Mutt,

I have a major problem. My master of many years recently passed away and left me his entire fortune! I never expected this, truly, but my life has changed forever. All of a sudden, every dog in town is my friend or claims to be my relative! Even the butler is giving me extra servings of stew! I’m suspicious of everybody, and the doorbell never stops ringing. All I desire is peace and tranquility and the occasional steak. What can I do?

Dear Plagued,

There is an old saying that goes “Nothing bad ever happens except for some good.” Obviously, the passing of your master is bad, and your inheritance of his great wealth is good. Even though you view both as bad, being so rich affords you an opportunity to be a philanthropist.

Share the wealth, I say. Open up your home to the homeless and put them to work. Teach them how to lead constructive lives. With a little organization, I envision great things for you and your mansion. It could become another M.I.T. (Mutt Institute of Technology).

Imagine the possibilities! This may not be the quiet, tranquil life you’re used to, but think about what your generosity would mean to canines and to the world!
