Olympus was recently in town to promote its line of digital cameras, recorders and accessories, several of which are new. Above is the professional-quality E-330 --- but then, if money is no object, this reporter wants the E-500. This EVolt line of cameras comes with the very important feature of a steel lens mount that lets you change to, say, a wide angle or telephoto lens; uses lenses specially built for digital photography; and is cheaper than comparable professional digital cameras made by competitors.

Below is the Stylus 720 SW, a shock and water resistant camera that you can drop or use in the driving rain without ruining it.

According to Olympus representative Joe Guzman, Latin America is a relatively small part of the world digital camera market, whose leading sellers are SONY and Kodak. However, the market in this region is growing faster than in other places and his company is making some serious efforts to capture a bigger share of sales.

Digital photography has advanced to the point that it has generally surpassed film photography in quality, and to the point that it will be increasingly hard to find places to develop film.
