A lot of people make their livings on the streets or in other public spaces in Panama, including a fair number of performing artists. Sometimes authorities try to suppress such activities, especially when undertaken by foreigners, but mostly the street artists, like the street vendors, are left alone. We don't have much in the way of an unemployment or welfare dole and there would be some serious social repercussions if the informal economy that thrives on our streets were suppressed.
