Una Genore Carew, community activist and

US immigration officer, formerly of Colon

Una Genore Carew, a native of Colon who in her years here was one of the movers and shakers with the Club Altamira --- in fact its first female president ---  and in the Canal Zone chapter of the Girl Scouts but who later emigrated to California where she worked as a US immigration officer, died on July 27 in Los Angeles, California.

Because of her job and her ties with the Panamanian community of Southern California she helped many Panamanians who emigrated there to learn the ways of the new country and fit in.
