Getting set to vote in the November US elections
US citizens living abroad have the right to vote by absentee ballot in federal elections, generally in the state where they lived or voted last. State regulations about what offices one may vote for vary, but no state can make a person pay taxes if she or he just votes in the federal elections from that state.
At a recent meeting of Democrats Abroad held at the Executive Hotel the US Consulate's Michelle Jovar --- the woman in red --- explained the rules and helped people get their registrations and ballot applications filled out and sent off in time to get absentee ballots. If you are an American citizen, no matter what your belief or affiliation, it's Michelle's job to help you participate in this year's important congressional elections.
