Two years of Martín Torrijos

by the National Front to Defend Economic and Social Rights (FRENADESO)

In the two years of Martín Torrijos's administration:

·        Street violence has increased, and along with it the citizens' fear.

·        More taxes to take money from our pockets have been approved.

·        Travel abroad by delegations of government officials has increased.

·       A more severe "Death Law" has been imposed, which privatized the management of the Social Security Fund, so now we pay more, work more and get paid less --- if we are lucky enough to be able to retire --- thanks to the Gamboa Pact that was financed by the UN Development Program.

·       A policy of corruption and bribery of so-called "popular leaders" has been pursued.

·        The public debt has increased by some $80 million every month.

·       The people's organizations have been blacked out by the mass communications media.

·       There have been attempts to impose treaties that are harmful to the national interests, like a free trade agreement with the United States and the Free Trade Area of the Americas.

·        The practice of nepotism continues.

·       Striking teachers, Seguro Social workers and all those who defend their rights have been denigrated and defamed.

·        Millions in state resources have been poured into deceptive propaganda by the government and the Panama Canal Authority in favor of the "yes" campaign.

·        Layoffs of public employees continue.

·       Facilities and resources of the state are used to throw parties for high government officials, such as the birthday party for the Dignity Battalion minister, Benjamín Colamarco, at the Ministry of Public Works.

·       The costs of electricity, water, transportaion, public services and living in general have all gone up.

·       The Banistmo Law was imposed, which exonerated several oligarchic families who are behind the canal expansion project from more than $400 million in capital gains taxes.

In the two years of this administration we have MORE unemployment, MORE insecurity, MORE corruption.

Thus we say no more deceptions, no more scams, no more corruption.

Vote NO on October 22 --- because Panama doesn't have to be like this.
