Bruce Quinn's Spanish adaptation of "Cabaret" at the Teatro En Circulo photos by Agustín Gonçalves
Reasonable people might argue about the social message of this Broadway musical hit and its applicability to Panama today. "Cabaret" may best be remembered as Liza Minnelli masterpiece performance to date, but more than just a song and dance spectacle it was the tale of a doomed cultural scene set in a failing democracy about to be taken over by the Nazis.
This production features the veteran team of Bruce Quinn directing and Dino Nugent as musical director. Juan Carlos Adames, who often appears in Quinn's productions, is offstage this time as one of the translators, along with Thyrxa M. Guerrero and Melina Samaniego P., who render the book by Joe Masteroff, play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood into this Spanish-language work. The leading lady is Juliette Roy O., and also starring are Lissette Condassin, Elmir Fadul, Luigi Lescure, Charles Brannan and Pepe Casis. The cast also includes Carolina Piñeros, Stanley Berrio, Any Tovar, Paulette Thomas, Moises Castillo, Stefanie De Roux, Michelle Domínguez, Lorena Arosemena, Julina Pérez, María Isabella Pérez, Dora Pineda, Emily Brown, Mayra Hurley, Analia Nuñez, Vanessa Quijano, Sara Macías, Oriel Espinosa, José Jiménez, William Sun and Guillermo Tejada.
The show is playing through September 30 at the Teatro En Circulo, Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m.
