When rumor spread that the Drama Club’s play of choice was The Breakfast Club, some of us started itching with anticipation to see it. Everybody became curious and wanted to know if it would turn out as good as the movie, or, if possible, better.

What none of us expected, however, was the spectacular performance put on that showed months of strenuous rehearsals to prepare. It seemed as though each actor had been born to play their character --- from Juan Diego de Obarrio’s violent portrayal of John Bender to Claire Surrey’s preppy interpretation of Claire Standish. The emotion they put into their characters captivated the audience both nights. After the show, many Balboa Academy students were surprised by how great it turned out. In fact, rumor has it that The Breakfast Club was the best play this school has ever produced.

An extra bonus to this year’s Drama Club production was the addition of the Stomp Club. With only a couple of weeks to prepare for their debut, the Stompers worked nonstop, which included an all-night lock-in, to give the brilliant show as an opening act to The Breakfast Club.

Frankly, we were surprised by how many people were interested in forming the Stomp Club. But at our first meeting, when all of our members showed up, we knew that we were on to something --- something with a lot of feeling. We hope that future Balboa Academy students will continue with this club and include a performance as opening for the next play.

Sophomore Carolina Euceda said, and enthusiastically, “The play as well as the Stomp was very entertaining. I enjoyed them very much.”

Congratulations to both the Stomp Club and the Drama Club for your absolutely amazing performances. You guys worked hard and it really paid off in an excellent production!
