The Dead Sea, from high above

Here we have a satellite photo of the Dead Sea, a low-lying and shrinking body of ultra-salty water into which the rivers and lakes of the Holy Land drain. On the right is Jordan. At the lower left is Israel and at the upper left is the occupied Palestinian West Bank.

There are no fish in the Dead Sea, nor are there any birds flying overhead. It does, however, attract a fair number of human tourists. Many people find the warm salty water and high atmospheric pressure that comes from being below sea level very soothing for skin problems.
