Goodbye to one of our elders

photos by Eric Jackson

The magnificent corotu tree that graced the courtyard of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute's Tupper Center is no more. It was brought down on November 28 by men who were born well after the tree had reached maturity. The Smithsonian inherited the tree from the old Tivoli Hotel, whose historic site the Tupper Center now occupies.
