Finca La Maya arts center inaugurated in San Carlos

Finca La Maya is the dream of Starr McCamant (center, in the black top), a San Jose State graduate in the arts who made her money in the Silicon Valley's technological revolution and is now getting back to what she always wanted to do

They bought a beautiful 40-acre farm "with everything"

and have built an arts center with ample room for studios

and classrooms, and are bringing in a number of artists

and writers to run classes, workshops and seminars, both

for foreign tourists and for San Carlos area residents.

checks out the information about one of the people who will

be giving classes during Finca La Maya's first season

The rock band Sunset Jam played at a small kickoff benefit, the proceeds of which

will go to defray the expenses of people in San Carlos who want to take classes in

English or the arts but can't afford to pay the regular price of this education

The place is set up to accommodate a small number of visiting artists and writers,

which will be a small step toward realizing the San Carlos district's great potential

to become an artists' and writers' colony, especially but not only in the dry season
