Billy Cobham at the Jazz Festival workshops

He’s a Panama native who moved to the States when he was three years old, a US Army veteran who counts his experience in military bands as part of his education, and a drummer who gained worldwide fame in the fusion scene with the Mahavishnu Orchestra way back when but has played in many a genre before and since. Here we have some videos taken of his work at recent workshops for Panamanian students.

An Air Force brat and student at Julliard, this young man and the music he makes with his trombone are increasingly known to the top people in the jazz world. He played in Edmar Casteñeda’s band in the recent Panama Jazz Festival and was every bit as amazing as that band’s superb leader.
