These are the English and Spanish versions, respectively, of the proposed free trade agreement between the United States and Panama. They are tentative drafts in that there are a few issues still on the table and some stylistic changes to iron out, but this is basically what's proposed. They are not only long --- 117 pages in PDF format in the English version --- but also make reference to many other treaties and laws, some of which are also long and complicated. That this may be a difficult read is no excuse to leave the thinking to others or to just rest on your preconceived notions without informing yourself about the true complexities involved. If the truth is to be told, for just about everybody there are both pluses and minuses in this proposed agreement. The Torrijos administration seems content to dumb down all debates and cut all media not under its control out of the loop, and The Panama News will not allow those sorts of information control games to be used to silence or limit criticism in the name of "balance," especially in the face of a massive public-funded propaganda blitz for one side. We will, however, do our best to present the various arguments pro and con.

These particular photos are about the recent antiwar protest in San Francisco, but once you get to the website you can surf on over to Roger's pictures of other subjects. It's good to have such a talented photographer with ties to Panama and the disposition to submit things to The Panama News. It would be even better if some of you recognize how good his work is and buy some of it.
Spay Panama Project Sora http://www.spaypanama.org/PROJECTSORA.html Pat Chan and Spay Panama recently went to Sora so that there would be fewer homeless dogs and cats and healthier and happier animals regardless of their home situations. Spay Panama does not kill homeless dogs or cats for whom it can't find homes, but after neutering them will release them in the places where they were found if that's the best they can do. This is the tale of the group's recent mission in the area around Altos del Maria.
