Bird Dog

 

 

Dear Dr. Mutt,

I live on the roof, and the birds and I have a unique relationship. I don’t mess with them and they don’t mess with me. However, the other day that relationship was tested to the max when the mama bird flew away on a routine food mission, as she does several times a day. I didn’t think much about it until the resident cat showed up in search of prey. In a flash, I leapt across the roof, snatched the babe in my mouth as gently as I could to keep it out of harm’s way. As luck would have it, both the master and the mom appeared at the same time so I got cursed from both ends at once.

I’m not guilty, Doc. I’m a bird dog. I love birds. But as for that scheming cat, well, I don’t know… How can I vindicate myself?
