Costume Cross-up

 

 

Dear Dr. Mutt,

The other day I was invited to a party at the dumpster. It was a casual affair so I wore my natural coat – a simple black tux with a white bib, but when I arrived, some guy said, “Hey, what’s with the monkey suit?”

“What monkey suit?” I asked, and everyone laughed.

I don’t understand, Doc. Where did I go wrong?

Dear Dressed,

A monkey suit is a derogatory term for a tuxedo, which is considered formal attire. The guys at the party were having a bit of fun at your expense, but take heart. My mom always said that it’s better to be over-dressed than not dressed at all, and you’re fortunate to have such a fancy natural coat because you will always be dressed for success! So wear your tux proudly.
