On a hot Memorial Day morning American veterans, active duty military personnel and civilians showed up at the Corozal American Cemetery, which is kept in immaculate condition under the direction of former US Army Ranger Bruce Phelps, to honor the fallen in the wars that the United States has fought, including three Panamanians who have died in Iraq

The day's principal speaker was Brigadier General David S. Elmo, who commands the 65th Regional Readiness Command at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. A veteran of the 1989 US invasion of Panama, he said expressed amazement at the growth of the Panama City skyline since he was last here, describing it as an "economic miracle."

Elmo spoke of the growing "warrior ethos" in the US Army.

General Elmo and US Ambassador William Eaton exchange pleasantries

Dr. Charles Garcia, retired Department of Defense dentist and

president of the American Society of Panama, was there

We have a lot of US military veterans here, including Panamanians who acquired

US citizenship through military service and then came back to Panama to retire
