The price of scallops may be high for Panama...

But only in relation to what it was a little while ago. You get better deals on seafood at Panama City's municipal seafood market on Avenida Balboa than in most other places, and although our cost of living is going up food is still much cheaper here than in the USA.

Another cool thing about the Mercado de Mariscos is that you can buy seafood from a vendor and take it upstairs to the restaurant and have them cook it for you. Conchuelas al ajillo? If you're a fan of both scallops and garlic, it's hard to beat that for lunch.
