Roberto Durán, who was born in Guarare in Chiriqui but grew up mostly in Panama City, is arguably the greatest of Panama's dozens of world champion boxers. Recently inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame, Durán is also honored by this new statue on Via Argentina. In a boxing career that touched five decades, Durán won 104 of his 120 professional bouts and won world championship belts in the lightweight, welterweight, junior middleweight and middleweight classifications.
