On a day when a police officer had shot and killed an unarmed young member of the SUNTRACS construction workers' union and that organization was filing a complaint with prosecutors about the murder of another of its members two days earlier by an employee of Constructora Norberto Odebrecht SA, independent mayoral candidate Miguel Antonio Bernal (left) showed up as workers were gathering to march to the Presidencia to protest. Two other politicians who have expressed an interest in running for Panama City's top job, the PRD's Balbina Herrera and Panameñista José I. Blandón, have not had anything to say about either union busting attempts or the murders of unarmed SUNTRACS members.
