Is this lifestyle the source of the English word sloth?

If you're a two-toed sloth --- Choloepus hoffmany --- you have to climb around in trees to make your living. Sloths do, however, get some fairly laid back --- in fact literally laid back --- breaks as part of their job.

In English, the name of this animal is "sloth." However, the word has another meaning, as in "habitual disinclination to exercise; indolence; laziness." The modern word for both the animal and the condition is said to derive from an Old English term that means "slow."
