Three Panamanians made it into post-season play: Mariano Rivera with the New York Yankees, Manny Corpas with the Colorado Rockies and Carlos Ruiz with the Philadelphia Phillies. As this edition was being produced, the Phillies had been eliminated by the Rockies and the Yankees were down two games to one against the Cleveland Indians. By far the Panamanian post-season star to this point has been Corpas, who has three saves in the playoffs.

Houston outfielder Carlos Lee's 119 runs batted in during the regular season put him in a tie for third place in the National League in that category.

After the season ended Dodgers outfielder Olmedo Saenz, who had a bad year and didn't play much, announced that he was becoming a free agent.
