The Bomberos' Torchlight
Parade
Tuesday November 27, after dark up Via Espaņa from the banking district, then down Avenida Central to Plaza Cinco de Mayo
This
year Panama mourns the deaths of two bomberos in Colon, and the
crippling injuries to several of their colleagues in the same
accident --- but Plaza Cinco de Mayo is itself named in honor of
firefighters killed in an explosion when a fires spread to a
fireworks factory long ago. It's always a dangerous job, calling for
Valor, Abnegation and Integrity, which are the watchwords of
Panama's Cuerpo de Bomberos.
The Torchlight Parade is held every year in late November in honor of the Firefighter Corps' foundation on November 28, 1885.
