Ambassador Eaton
in Embera country

US Ambassador Bill Eaton, left, in the long-sleeved guayabera, got the guided tour of Parara Puru, an Embera village adjacent to the Chagres National Park in which Peace Corps volunteers are active. The people in the village are developing tourism to complement their local economy. People visit in search of guides for the jungle trails, indigenous herbal cures and to buy local artists' work. The Peace Corps is helping by improving sanitary systems so as to protect the environment that attracts ecotourists and improve the villagers' health, by developing the local system of nature trails and by helping to train people to work as tour guides.
