The people in the village are developing tourism to complement their local economy. People visit in search of guides for the jungle trails, indigenous herbal cures and to buy local artists' work. The Peace Corps is helping by improving sanitary systems so as to protect the environment that attracts ecotourists and improve the villagers' health, by developing the local system of nature trails and by helping to train people to work as tour guides.
