A benefit for a library for San Carlos

At Finca La Maya, the main business plan is to provide courses in the arts, yoga, healthy living and so on for people coming from abroad to visit Panama and in many cases staying at that luxurious 40-acre farm. Meanwhile, however, dozens of locals have flocked to the arts center in San Carlos to take advantage of English classes that are part of the facility's plan to be a respected neighbor, and in the course of teaching English many deficiencies in the local cultural infrastructure have become readily apparent. One of them is the lack of a local library.

So Finca La Maya is creating a library, starting small as a reference facility. Exedra Books in Panama City is pitching in with a program to put some of the proceeds of their book sales into the project, and about 90 people showed up for a December 15 dinner concert benefit to help fund the cause.
