Register by January 31 to vote in the
Democrats Abroad Global Primary

Dear Friends and Fellow Democrats,

Your vote means a lot to us at Democrats Abroad and we don't want you to miss out on being a part of this historic primary.

February 5th through February 12th, 2008 Democrats Abroad will hold a Global Primary and you can vote by Internet, mail, fax or, in 33 countries, in person.

In order to vote by Internet, mail or fax, you must be a member of Democrats Abroad by January 31, 2008 and we must have your updated information. In order to make sure that you are in our new database, please go to http://www.democratsabroad.org/user/register. Please double check because we do not want you to miss out on having a voice in who our delegates support in Denver.

* If you are already in one of our databases, then you will be recognized by your email address and told that you are already a member. (If you have changed emails, however, you could already be in the system and will be allowed to join as a new member. If this is the case, please let us know, as we are checking for duplicates and this will make the process a little easier.)

* If you are already a member and have the same email address, then the system has generated a user name (your first and last name separated by a space) and a password (again, if you have changed email addresses you will not have received a user name).

* Many of you have received your user name and password and activated your account (thank you!).

* Should you try to sign up on our new web site and receive a message that you are already a member but have not received an email with your user name and password, then please send an email right away to site-help@democratsabroad.org so we can make sure you get your user name and password.

When you sign on to activate your account either as an existing member or through the join form, you will be asked if you want to participate in the Global Primary. (If, for some reason, you do not see this question then send an email to site-help@democratsabroad.org.) If you click yes to this question then you will be put on a list of eligible voters (provided we have all your required information, e.g. date of birth) and be sent credentials by our outside internet voting vendor, Everyone Counts, so that you can vote on-line. You do not have to vote this ballot but can opt to vote by mail, fax or in person. Note that one cannot vote twice and we will have a record of those voting by all the various means which will be crossed-checked prior to our announcing the results Feb 21.)

If you want to vote by mail or fax and you live in a country where we have a committee then please contact your country chair. If you need contact information please go to http://www.democratsabroad.org. If we do not have a country committee where you live please contact me at chair@democratsabroad.org and a ballot will be sent to you with all the necessary return information.

If you want to vote in person, then please go to democratsabroad.org for your local voting center date, place and time.

While it might all sound complicated -- and there have been some complications with our IT launch and for that we apologize -- the rush was greater than we expected but it let us know that there are a lot of people out there, perhaps including you, who are just as excited about this election as we are.

To simplify it: we just need to have you in our new database with up-to-date and complete information and to know whether you want to vote by internet, fax or mail by January 31. The first can be communicated to us via our web site http://www.democratsabroad.org/user/register by clicking yes to "do you want to participate in the Global Primary" and the other two by communicating that choice to your respective country chair if you have one or, if not, to myself.

Thank you for participating,

Christine Schon Marques
International Chair Democrats Abroad

P.S.: Participation in our Global Primary is also open to any overseas American (including our men and women in uniform) who joins Democrats Abroad before the deadline, so please forward this e-mail on to all of your friends and family overseas in order to allow them to participate in this historic opportunity. Vote for Democratic Victory in 2008.

Editor's Note and correction: For those who don't vote by mail, fax or Internet, there will also be the opportunity to cast ballots in person on the afternoon of February 12 at Elks Lodge 1414 in Balboa. Although the local chapter of Democrats Abroad has sent out conflicting messages, there will be same day voter registration for people who vote in person. HOWEVER, THIS ONLY APPLIES TO VOTING IN PERSON. YOU MUST REGISTER BY JANUARY 31 TO VOTE BY INTERNET, FAX OR MAIL IN THE DEMOCRATS ABROAD PRIMARY.
