Viejo's Plaza Catedral, near the presidential palace, is into its third
week and, although it is reported that the protesters have been running
short on cooking fuel and other supplies, sympathizers have been giving
various donations and reinforcements have been coming into the city
from a number of rural communities that are threatened with
displacement by hydroelectric dams, mines or tourist developments. The
campout began with a small group from the Ngobe-Bugle Comarca whose
lands and water supplies are being threatened by a hydroelectric dam.
Since it began delegations from at least 10 other communities have
joined.
