They got a brief meeting with President Torrijos, but no commitment to change anything
Protests against rural displacement continue

Protesters from rural communities threatened with displacement by strip mines, hydroelectric dams or  tourist resorts have continued their weeks of protests in Plaza Catedral. Although they're mostly being ignored by the corporate mainstream media, they have put their message out on radio and in various alternative media and by word of mouth and continuous presence on the streets have succeeded in raising awareness of their complaints to many people in the metro area. At the very least they are a reminder that the ruling PRD may be in political trouble in the swing voting Ngöbe - Bugle Comarca, from whence the original group of protesters came. Recognizing that, President Torrijos briefly met with a delegation of protesters, but no promises were made and both went away apparently determined to keep on doing what they've been doing.
