Small plane transport

Hmmmm ---- didn't the last Panamanian government leader to die in office crash in one of these?

Well, yes, General Omar Torrijos did go down in a De Havilland Twin Otter, much like this aircraft taking commercial passengers to Panama City from Bocas del Toro. However, it wasn't the plane as such, nor has there been any substantiation for all of the rumors that it was a bomb or some other sort of sabotage. What happened was that the general decided to fly into the rustic rural airport at Coclesito in bad weather, and the risks of flying in marginal conditions, which he frequently took, caught up with him.

Air Panama's De Havilland Twin Otter service is, from the statistical record, much safer.

It can, however, be hard on the ears. And if you are one of these people terrified to fly in a small plane, maybe it isn't for you.
