A prolonged dry season
photos by Eric Jackson

When these photos were taken the forecast ws for scattered thundershowers, but they were very scattered. On the Atlantic side we had seen rain and here and there we'd had Pacific side showers, but most of the country was dry and afternoon highs were getting into the high 90s, about as hot as it ever gets in Panama. The delayed onset of rainy season did not become an operational problem for the Panama Canal, but in some places it was beginning to affect water supplies and it did have an impact on the national hydroelectric generating capacity.

On May 2 most of the country got a good rain and we have had scattered showers since then, but in many places the ground is not yet soft enough to start planting.
