$10,000 prize for a lifetime of literary achievement at the 2008
Rogelio Sinan Awards. The prizes, given every two years by the
Universidad Tecnologico de Panama, honor writers in various categories
in Panama and the Central American countries.
Also honored this year, taking the prize for poetry, was another Panamanian, 38-year-old Porfirio Salazar. So how does one go about making a living writing poetry here in Panama? Well, Salazar actually supports himself by working as a rural judge in Cocle province. Also in this section: Jorge Dunn and his generation of Panamanian street
