The Bayano Dam provides the largest share of Panama's hydrolectric power, but not far away in the Bayano region the village of La Tosca has no electricity. They used to have just a one-room wooden schoolhouse.

Now, thanks to the efforts of Panama's Kiwanis Club, while problems with the physical structures of schoolhouses are causing bitter protests in many parts of the country, the three dozen or so elementary school kids at La Tosca have a better school.
