Irving
the Kangaroo!At 8.34 meters, Irving "El
Canguro" Saladino beat the South African Khotso Mokoena by 10
centimeters (about four inches) to win Panama's first-ever Olympic gold
medal and our first Olympic medal since runner Lloyd La Beach took
bronzes in the 200 and 400 meters at the 1948 London Olympics. The
bronze medal in Beijing's long jump competition went to Cuba's Ibrahim
Camejo.
