Colon's new resident philosopher

Dr. José Petterson left Colon some 23 years ago to study chemistry in what was then the Soviet Union. After getting his master's degree as a chemist, he set out with a train ticket for Berlin and about $25 in his pocket, and over 16 years --- starting from scratch as an undergrad --- he worked his way through school, this past March earning a doctorate in philosophy at the same University of Berlin department where the young Karl Marx earned his. Petterson's doctoral dissertation was on the concept of God, in the theoretical framework of Kant's thinking.

Now back in Panama after more than two decades of absence, Petterson may or may not find a spot in an academia dominated by a University of Panama rector whose own doctorate is fake.
