Theoretically, the road is paved all the way to Meteti and a ways beyond. However, the pavement is missing in some stretches and the potholes in the asphalt are bad in others

All right, you animals --- are your papers in order? You shouldn't go to the Darien without
proper identification, as the odds are great that you will be carded at a police checkpoint

There are now lodgings to be had along the Pan-American Highway, including a few
rooms with most of the amenities you'd expect here in the community house at Arimae
