Unlike most women who work out in boxing gyms...

The womanly art
photos by Eric Jackson

Yacksbury Gordón works long hours at a store in the Albrook Mall. After that you're likely to find her working out at the municipal boxing gym in Barraza.

Gordón is atypical among women who box in that she has twice gone into a ring to fight for a prize. Most of the women who work out at boxing gyms don't really compete in the sport, but just practice it to stay in shape. Boxing's also a social scene with peculiarities that set it apart from other fitness and athletic crowds.
