Panama City Carnival location upheld in court
Some may not like it...

A lot of business owners along the Panama City Carnival route --- the Transistmica, roughly from the University of Panama to 12 de Octubre --- dislike the idea of losing the better part of a week's business. Many nearby residents are even more upset, not so much about the wild partying but about the police state tactics designed to keep weapons out of the Carnival site but having the side effect of impeding people who are trying to come and go to and from their own homes, to the point where one young man who was trying to get home was shot by a security guard the last time around.

Legislator Mireya Lasso and a bunch of local residents and business owners sued in the Supreme Court to set aside the capital's designation of the Transistmica as the Carnival area. A unanimous high court, however, threw out their objections on procedural grounds, without getting into the facts and law about a substantial measure of control over the plaintiffs' homes and businesses being taken away without due process or compensation. So the party will take place on the Transistmica as scheduled.
