Panama's "mainsteam" folk traditions --- the so-called cultura tipica --- trace roots back to the country's central provinces, and the Azuero Peninsula in particular. But they are national culture and very much alive in the capital.

Here, the tradition is passed to another generation as younsters practice in the little cultural area in the middle of the Mercado de Buhoneros y Artesanias just off of Panama City's Plaza Cinco de Mayo.
