the mosquito population increases and things start to emerge. There are
the June bugs, which generally come and go before June in Panama. They
don't bite or sting, but they're an annoyance. Then come the little
black beetles that do bite.
Somewhere along the way, one gains a certain sympathy with Patty Hearst's long-ago "Comrade Tania" persona --- "Death to the Fascist Insect!" was the slogan. Some wage petrochemical war, some try ever finer screening, some of us swat and squish and scratch, and some of us light Chinese punk.
