J. Stephenson swore in 46 new Peace Corps volunteers. They then headed
to places in every Panamanian province, mostly small and poor rural
communities, to work as sustainable agriculture advisers, English
teachers, and environmental conservation technicians, with a view toward
leaving behind a body of knowledge in the communities where they work,
upon which local residents can build.
