had a profound effect on the American people, but in al-Qaeda's attacks
on mostly civilian targets in the United States that day people of many
nationalities, including Panamanians, were killed. People in the
American community here reflected on the sad anniversary in many ways,
but the official US observance was a low-keyed act of solidarity,
improving public spaces and visiting America's friends in the Casco
Viejo.
