Canadian Thanksgiving at the Hotel Miramar

Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October, but since that's not a holiday here in Panama about 150 members and friends of the Canadian Association gathered at the Hotel Miramar on Saturday, October 10 to observe the tradition. Other than the singing of Oh Canada, and some of the decor and some of the private conversations, this was not an event for the making of speeches or the flaunting of various versions of what it means to be Canadian. It seems that Canadians generally feel good enough about themselves and their country that they don't feel the need for these compulsions.

The Canadians themselves weren't the only thing to feel good about. The food --- not all of which is shown here --- was hardcore excellent. On that score the Miramar has to be rated world class. This reporter's --- and surely the Canadian community's --- compliments to the chef.
