Do you think that great athletes get to the top and stay at the top by natural talent alone? Where did you get that idea?

Yes, there is a certain inherited quickness, a certain killer instinct, a certain innate facility at eye-hand coordination that a prizefighter must possess to be successful. But then these congenital gifts must be improved upon. Skills must be painstakingly acquired. The body must be worked hard into top-notch condition.

And so Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno, the World Boxing Association's bantamweight champion, trains hard for another defense of his title, which will take place against Frederic Patrac in Agde, France on December 4.

Here in Panama, the next big boxing night is November 27 at the Gimnasio Roberto Duran, where WBA flyweights Luis "La Nica" Concepción and Roberto "Mako" Leyva will top a full card of professional fights.
