trends as they continue to make new music
Shorty & Slim have a new
CD
Shorty & Slim have released their
sixth music recording, Rust, Termites and Juega Vivos. The title alone
belies this attitude that we have come to expect, but for the record
they describe it as "history,
culture, tradition and memories of the Canal Zone and Panama... all
wreathed into calypso, rock, reggae, oldies and folk music."
The recording industry, whose sticky fingered moguls never gave Shorty & Slim the slightest consideration, has more or less collapsed. The corporate mainstream radio scene associated with it is on a respirator and all but brain dead. But the spark of artistic creativity is very much alive, and musicians are finding new ways to market their work. Shorty & Slim are part of this business movement among musicians, and if you are like so many of us who store our music collections in our computers --- maybe with DVD back-ups --- then they're in synch with your habits. You can buy the CD, or you can buy the MP3 tracks to download, at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/shortyslim7. When you think about it, Shorty & Slim are not only geographically dispersed as a band, they have a following that largely lives in a diaspora as well. Thus the online marketing system that they have embraced will probably sell more of their recordings than would have been the case had one of the dying old fashioned labels paid attention to them.
