Part comedy and part morality play, God's Favorite is about a bet that God and the Devil made on a modern-times sequel to the Book of Job. The Chosen One (Dan Heinrichs) might have already figured that God was testing him, given his cynical drunken first born (Nicholas Miles), his shallow materialistic wife (Diana Luz Parada) and his dizzy younger kids (Hilary Hughes and Giancarlo Benedetti). The servants (Nairobys Rojas and Colombino Headley) were the only pillars of stability in this dysfunctional household.

Then came a messenger (Francis Icaza). He didn't LOOK like the Angel Gabriel, Muhammad bin Abdullah or Charlton Heston, so naturally The Chosen One was suspicious. But soon, although he wouldn't renounce his earlier belief, he came to believe the messenger --- not that he took his advice.

Icaza put in the best performance in this play, according to this reviewer's tastes. You might have a different opinion. In any case this is the Theatre Guild going back to the Neil Simon well, again successfully. These canonical works of American drama have for decades gone down well with the experimental stuff and the various other plays to make the Theatre Guild this country's senior theater group. God's Favorite is a good example of the reasons for this community theater group's long run.
