Dinner Duo Dear Dr. Mutt,
When the mistress brings out my plate, Clarabelle the cat runs outside and tries to eat my food! I bark at her, but she stretches up till she's taller than I am and hisses at me. She's such a greedy gut! She has her own dish inside the house. She doesn't eat a lot, but I don't like waiting and I definitely don't like eating after a cat! What can I do? I don't want to hurt her, but it's not fair! Exasperated in El Dorado Dear Exasperated,
Cats are weird, and Clarabelle sounds
like she’s at the top of the list, but basically, I think it's a power
struggle issue. Felines are famous for flaunting their fangs in our
faces. They do what they please and then they rub it in.
Though this probably won't work, try to ignore her when she runs out. If she sees it doesn’t bother you, she may not do it anymore. Then again, she may. You might try growling instead of barking, but be quick to jump back in case she swats you. Let me know how it goes. Sparky
