Lessons in Assertiveness

by Sparky, the Wonder Dog, a/k/a Dr. Sparkus T. Mutt

edited by P.V. Alvarado

A Grave Mistake

Dear Dr. Mutt,

Yesterday the master gave me a big bone for dessert, but I wasn't hungry right then so I buried it for later. This morning, when I went to dig it up, it was gone, but on my way back to my house, I found the thief! Bugsy, my yard mate, had stolen it and was having it for breakfast! I tried to get it back, but he wouldn't let go and ate it all up.

I want revenge, but I don't know how. Any suggestions?

Hungry in Houston

Dear Hungry,

Revenge doesn't pay, and since a fence links your destinies, it would behoove you to keep the peace. May I suggest you find a better burial spot, and be sure that Bugsy isn't nearby when you do!

Finders Keepers

Dear Dr. Mutt,

Today was my lucky day! I was doing my usual exercise around the yard, and I discovered a treasure buried near the fence! I dug it up and brought it back to my house for breakfast, but then Uno, that silly mutt who shares the yard with me, tried to take it away. I told him to go find his own treasure and held on tight. The nerve!

Happy in Houston

Dear Happy,

I totally understand how you feel about finding such a treasure, but you might have given your mate a small bite just to keep the peace.
